Golden anti-utopias

Mall Nukke’s work tends to be beautiful and colourful, but under this guise she has always managed to say things to people that they don’t seem to want to hear. And now she greets this spring with an especially “optimistic” message.

…Mall says that the circle is a symbol of routine. She says she gained inspiration from relatively abstract expressions such as a “circle of friends”. Since the circle is a closed system, without beginning or end, it is difficult to enter …and also to leave…
There isn’t a straight line in this exhibition. Everything undulates like tropical plants, and sucks like flesh-eating plants. The most powerful image has a slightly cracked hologram at its centre. „This is from the front cover of National Geographic. It is America,“ Nukke says, revealing the source of her fantastic creature…

…The other works draw you in more delicately, but it is not obvious if their suction caps are any weaker. You can gaze for hours at the finely chopped little pieces and continue to discover new psychedelic images until you go crazy. Unfortunately, at the opening there wasn’t the time to gaze at one picture for three hours. The gallery had to close for the night. But I would be happy to do such an experiment in comfortably domestic surroundings…
