Water and earth have always been considered to be basic elements of universe that on the one hand complement each other, but on the other hand try to conquer the other element in that water absorbs earth and earth is created when the sea withdraws its waters. The moments when these two elements come into contact with each other are the source of inspiration and excitement. Reflections of earthy objects in the water turn these objects, which are otherwise considered being solid and tangible, into something playful and utterly elusive. Precisely this is the quality embedded in the contact between these two elements – water and earth – that made me crab my brush and work passionately for days trying to entrap with my painting tools the imperceptible dance of water and earth on the canvas. The water is the ultimate creator of my paintings, leaving the humble role of the executer of these pictures to me. And I am just trying to keep up with the unearthly creativeness of nature.
I started working on the oil paintings of water-worlds in 2016.
The reflections on these paintings were “captured” in Venice, Riga, Hamburg and Croatia’s Hvar.
What makes these watery views so enchantingly abstract and scenic is the feeling that the same sea unites us with other nations, rolling its waters in waves also to our shores. Including here, to the shores of Ruhnu Island.
